Description
Decoupage the interior of cleaned oyster shells to create attractive trinket dishes, ideal for gift giving
Resources
Oyster shells, Decoupage tissue paper, PVA glue, paint brushes, metallic paint, UV resin, UV lamp, OPAQUE disposable gloves.
Instructions
This Activity takes 2 sessions
1. select tissue papers, cut out appropriate pieces of the design
2. coat the inside of the shell with watered down PVA glue and add tissue. paint more PVA over the top in a thin layer. the neater this stage is, the better the results.
3. leave to dry completely, ideally overnight.
4. paint a thin layer of UV resin over the inside of the shell. Only a very thin layer is required. Brushes used with UV resin must be cured and disposed of after use.
5. cure the resin under a UV lamp. Follow manufacturers guidelines. a 4 mintue cure is usually enough, shells may need to be tilted to allow light to reach all areas.
6. paint the rims with metallic paint
7. ideally leave the dishes to dry in a place with direct sunlight - this will ensure the resin is fully cured over a longer period before they are gift wrapped.
Complete! Trinket dishes make excellent presents. with the addition of a hole for ribbon they can be converted into hanging decorations. Cleaned and dried Oyster shells do not smell.
