Instructions
1. Prepare Materials:
- Create pre-printed sheets featuring images of old scout badges, each accompanied by a brief description.
- Provide a separate sheet with images of modern-day badges that [members] will need to match with the historical ones.
2. Introduction:
- Begin with a brief overview of scouting history, explaining how badges reflect the skills and values upheld by scouting over the decades.
3. Group Division:
- Divide cubs into small teams (3-4 per team) and distribute the pre-printed sheets of old badges and the matching sheet of modern badges.
4. Matching Process:
- Instruct each team to work collaboratively to match the old badges with the correct descriptions and modern equivalents. Encourage discussions on why they think certain badges may be linked.
- Allow about 20-30 minutes for this activity.
5. Group Sharing:
- Bring everyone back together and review the matches as a large group. Discuss the correct answers, highlighting key skills and values associated with both sets of badges.
- Share interesting historical facts about each badge’s purpose and relevance.
6. Reflection:
- Engage Cubs in a discussion about what they learned, encouraging them to think about how the essence of scouting has remained the same even as badges have evolved.
- Optionally, consider a quick reflection session where Cubs can express which badge or skill they found most interesting.
